Project Description

Portsmere Construction in Surrey - Transforming Spaces, Creating Homes

The Pilgrim, Dorking

At Portsmere Construction, our passion lies in reimagining spaces, breathing new life into structures, and creating distinct living environments. Our recent triumph, ‘The Pilgrim’ in Dorking, stands a testament to our commitment to excellence in construction and design in Surrey.

Constructing Modern, Functional Homes

The Pilgrim project was a remarkable endeavour, where the former Pilgrim pub in Dorking underwent a metamorphosis. The ten-plot site witnessed a magnificent transformation, featuring four newly built three-storey townhouses, two stunning coach houses, and four luxurious apartments. This project marked a milestone for us, winning the prestigious ‘Best New Homes Development’ at the esteemed Surrey Property Awards in 2019.

The Apartments

Contemporary & Practical New Builds in Surrey

The apartments within ‘The Pilgrim’ embody our dedication to crafting homes that embrace natural light. By removing floors and the roof, we initiated a transformative process. A new foundation in the basement laid the groundwork for an innovative approach. Retaining the existing walls, we incorporated new floors and an improved roof structure. Our decision to replace the original windows with large timber frames was strategic; it floods the high-storey apartments with natural light, elevating the living experience by creating an airy and inviting atmosphere.

Natural light isn’t just an architectural element; it’s a game-changer in a home’s ambience. It opens up spaces, accentuates design features, and creates a seamless connection with the outdoors. In ‘The Pilgrim’ apartments, it’s not just an added feature; it’s an integral part of the living experience.

Utilising Spaces Strategically

The two coach houses reflect the design of the original timber coach houses on-site, we recreated them with modern flair. These structures, boasting high vaulted ceilings, showcase our dedication to preserving heritage while embracing contemporary aesthetics. Nestled at the back of the site, these houses seamlessly integrate into the old pub garden, offering a serene and private retreat.

As for the new four terraced houses in Dorking, Surrey, we ensured each property exuded its unique charm while maintaining our signature high standards. From the choice of tiling to floor finishes, every detail was meticulously crafted, offering individuality within a cohesive development.

Another Study Case

Monument View, Weybridge

Monument View, situated in the heart of Weybridge, was completed in Spring 2018. The eleven contemporary apartments were constructed from a site which used to be a public house. Each of the apartments were built to a high specification using stylish kitchen designs and bathroom layouts. as well as either a balcony, juliette balcony or outside patio space.

Bookham Grange, Bookham

The Bookham Grange Hotel was a 19th Century, listed building. Since its original construction the building had been extended several times. On this part of the project we removed these extensions and took it back to its original footprint. The remaining building was sympathetically converted into six apartments ranging from 1050 Sq ft to 1,500 Sq ft.
